1847 Built in Otisville, NY

United Methodist Church established at 20 Highland Ave, Otisville, NY.

1972 Decommissioned

The church is decommissioned, marking the end of its service as a place of worship.

1973 Purchased by Joan Leaxau

Joan Leaxau, a children's book author, purchases the building, beginning a new chapter in its history.

2016 Purchased by John Wilbur

The property is sold to John Wilbur, who later initiates plans for its restoration. John’s deep connection to the sanctuary is rooted in his family's legacy, particularly through his grandfather, John Wilbur, who played a significant role in the church's original construction—a man John never had the chance to meet but whose impact he deeply feels. This legacy is further honored by the Wilber family's donation of one of the eight stained glass windows that have continuously kept the spirit of the sanctuary alive.
